Direct Access

Virginia law now allows individuals to receive physical therapy services without a physician’s referral. A Patient Attestation Form (click here), in which you identify the physician you would traditionally see for your specific health concern (primary care physician, orthopedic doctor, etc) is required.

From the date of your initial physical therapy evaluation, Virginia law allows 30 business days of physical therapy treatment before you are required to see your primary care physician or orthopedic doctor.

If you wish to participate in Direct Access we ask that you verify with your insurance company that they will reimburse for physical therapy services without a referral.

What is the benefit of Direct Access?

If you suspect you have an injury that requires physical therapy, we will provide you immediate, non-pharmaceutical treatment that allows you to reduce pain, stay active, and save money.

If you have to visit a primary care physician before accessing physical therapy the onset of your physical therapy treatment is delayed as you work through the healthcare system. The benefits of starting physical therapy earlier can result in a quicker reduction of pain and return to activity.
